Botox for muh toes 😉

Here is a picture that I took today of my B.E.A.yootiful feat 😍

I had the Botox injections done yesterday and they said that it should start working in the next 3-5 days.

I really hope it works because I can’t help but be excited about it 🙃😬🙏

So…we shall see.

We chose to try Botox for my toes because when she did the muscle testing she found that the muscles connecting to my toes were being affected more from muscle spasms, whereas my ankles seem to be less affected by muscle spasms and may have more to do with the tendons alone.

When I first got into my accident in 2008, my ankles were were not wrapped while I was staying in the nursing home hung down for almost two months. By the time I got to rehab and was able to apply weight to them…they were completely stuck in plantar flexion.

It was always crazy to me that they became ‘that stuck’ within that amount of time. I did everything I could to stretch them out but they would not budge.

I tried wearing leg braces with hinges on them for the first two years, hoping that if they had the ability to move, they would. But instead it just caused me to develop huge sores on my feet from the pressure it would put on the sides of my feet and ankles and toes.

Therefore, I ended up wearing leg braces that were set to the position of my ankles and I wore wedges under my heels.

Surgery on my tendons was something I wanted to avoid because I didn’t want my tendons to be weak. By the time I began to accept that surgery might be my only option I was too busy with wheelchair basketball and Paracanoe to have time for it. In the summers I was on the water paddling and going to training camps and during he school year I was in Illinois, going to school and traveling every other week for basketball…and walking again was no longer my focus. I had to make the choice to let that go in order to move on my with life and find the peace that I needed within myself.
But now, after 8 years…it’s finally time for that chapter of my life.

As far as getting the tendons in my ankles to release, Dr. Crane is going to discuss with a physical therapist to see whether he thinks that Botox and cereal casting would be able to help. But she and I are both leaning more towards surgery on my Achilles’ tendons.

I should find out in the next few weeks 🙂

I can’t even begin to describe how amazing the thought of being able to stand with my feet flat on the ground sounds to me!

I can’t wait to be 5’3 again!! (Right now I am 5’7) I can’t wait to wear normal shoes again! I can’t wait to wear all of my jeans again! And I can’t wait to no longer have the pain in my toes and ankles anymore. And even if I get a new kind of pain…I’m ready for a change 😉
